With the ever changing nature of travel, we need a fresh approach to policing in this area.
What I would suggest is that the policing of the roads, airports, seaports as well as the railways, should all come under a national, unified transport police force. Customs and Excise, as well as Border Agency staff would also be included. That way, county boundaries and other bureaucratic obstacles are overcome, and a co-ordinated service would result. I believe it would make the work of the County police forces more focused in terms of local crime and the ‘National Police Force’ (soon to be established), dealing with national and international crime. It would also help in co-ordiantion between the different levels of investigating crime.
